Summarized completely by this picture is what I wish to do in life.

IUPUI, so technically Purdue, but not in Lafayette.

Same problem I had. I always wanted to go into ME, and I spent 4 years in JC trying to relearn all the math they taught me wrong in High School so I could get into prerequisite classes I needed for mechanical engineering. I reached a point, though, where the time/money required to continue in school and pay the rent no longer made sense & I had to make the decision to focus on pursuing my career as a tech over getting financial aid & continuing in school. I wish I had the degree, and I’d like to go back someday, but I can’t say I regret my decision entirely. You’re young enough to do it right though, so don’t give up on that dream. Get tutors if you need to. Engineers are important, of course, but nothing happens without mechanics who understand them. Both are rewarding paths.
Whereabouts are you? Maybe I’ll find my way to a track near you someday.

To inquisitively stare at racecars?

NY State, the nearest track to me is Watkins Glen. Been going my whole life. All of the IMSA series run there at the end of June and I’ll be there watching some racing.
I’m really awful at math, as I can do it in a practical way, but it’s certainly not my best subject. Science I’m pretty good at though so that’s a plus.

Sounds like me again. Science & physics make sense to me too, but math was always a stumbling block past Algebra. Geometry I found easy though.
As it so happens... I might be at the Glen with the Lambos for that weekend. If so hopefully you’ll be the second Opponaut I’ll meet, after 505Turbeaux.

I’ve just finished first year. And I don’t pay for it myself, so I don’t actually know the costs.
Here’s the webpage about the degree with the curriculum and such.

I did okay in Algebra but being a HS freshman I didn’t always take things super seriously. Geometry I was pretty good with, Algebra II & Trig is where I got kinda lost. It just didn’t really register with me for what ever reason.
I’m planning to take some courses that’d keep me on track for possible engineering after hs but wanted to take an Auto Tech in case it didn’t work out, as next year’s my senior year.
Awesome! I’ll be at the track all weekend from Thursday morning through Sunday night after the 6 Hours so there’ll be many an opportunity to meet up at some point. Should get me some pit access for the Lambo race! ;)

Neat, I will definitely consider that.

You may see if any colleges in your state offer the degree, and if they don’t, ask if they could consider offering it.

Study business or marketing. You’d be absolutely flabbergasted by the depth of ineptitude amongst business and marketing people in motorsport.

Someone should just put the caption:

I spent a weekend with Risi Competizione. Although i’ve been a tech for 13 years, fabricating parts in their machine shop and making things in their carbon fiber shop is something I knew hrdly nothing about and way too much for me. All that on top of the chaos that is motorsport and getting things done on time and perfect during the race.
